Doors are much more than an entryway into your home. They offer protection from the elements, pests, and intruders. Doors also add to the curb appeal of your home. Unfortunately, they do not last forever. You will eventually need to replace them for one reason or another. Here are some signs that indicate you need to replace a door:
Drafts:
Doors are supposed to prevent drafts in your home. This helps control the heating and cooling costs you have. If you feel a draft coming from your door, it may be time for a new one.
Cracks:
Your doors should be crack-free. Cracks in a door are a sign of irreparable damage and the door is at the end of its lifespan.
Loose Hinges:
Loose hinges are not a good thing. This reduces the security of your home and allows drafts into your home. It can also make opening and closing the door much more difficult. Sometimes it may be a loose screw or two, but you may need a new door.
Difficulty Opening/Closing:
Opening and closing your door should be quick and easy. If you have to put extra effort into using your door other than a gentle push or pull, there is an issue.
Moisture Damage:
Moisture is damaging in many ways, even for doors. Water can seep into wood doors over time leading to rotting, mold, and mildew. Moisture can get trapped in between the window panes of a door as well. This usually happens because a seal has failed. This is a time to consider buying a new door such as a fiberglass or steel door.
